Praying to God's New Names

Post by sid » Mon Oct 24, 2005 11:19 pm

To the Forum:

1) "God" is a generic name, as is "Lord"; both applied to pagan gods and lords (Baalim).
2) But Jesus promised a "new name for God" and a "new name for Himself"; Rev 3.12.
3) God's "new name" is recorded: "Lord God Almighty"; Rev 4.8; and others.
4) One of Jesus' "new names" is "The Word" (Jn 1.1); which was written shortly before Revelation.
5) This was expanded "The Word of God" (Rev 19.13).
6) Another of Jesus' names is: "King of kings, and Lord of lords" (Rev 19.16).

TOGETHER THEY ARE CALLED:
"The God and The Lamb" (Rev 22.1).
"One Lord and One God" (Eph 4.5-6).

are you limiting the number of names to use?

Are you saying these are the only valid names for referring to God? If so, what authority would you use for limiting it to this selected set?

If so, how do you explain that Jesus instructed us to speak directly to God in prayer, addressing Him as "Father" (Matthew 6:1-18)?
